The Royal Bafokeng Kimberley Pilgrimage is one of the most important and anticipated events in our Bafokeng calendar, where we pay homage to those purest leaders who taught the simplest and most inclusive rules for an undivided mankind.

The Bafokeng Regimen who between the 1870s and 1900s, trekked to Kimberley’s newfound diamond mines to raise money that would later be used to buy back land which was forcefully taken from the Bafokeng and to secure a better life.

The land that was bought happened to be situated on large platinum deposits. The RBN went on to receive royalties from the mines which they transformed into a diversified investment portfolio through our community based investment company (Royal Bafokeng Holdings).

The income received from the investment portfolio has birthed a variety of social development programmes and projects which have been implemented for the betterment of the Bafokeng Nation through its Governance structures and extensive consultation with community members (Morafe).

This commemorative pilgrimage, takes place once every 3 years, to mark this significant time for the Bafokeng. During this time Bafokeng, in comradeship wear the tradition attire (Kgakana material) and show-up in numbers to honour the regimen and its leaders.

  • A true demonstration stewardship, pulling together and making sacrifices for the benefits of the greater Nation.
